If you are seeking a nice new hike in Scottsdale, you may be excited to learn that a new trailhead is set to open in the Troon area this fall. The McDowell Sonoran Preserve recently announced the Brown’s Ranch Trailhead, which was built in celebration of the Preserve’s three-year-long expansion. Following its grand opening on October 19th, the trailhead will act as a hub for the hikers, bikers and nature lovers of Troon who wish to access up to 50 miles of scenic trails. The trailhead is scheduled to open at sunrise.
The purpose of McDowell Sonoran Preserve is to protect the natural ecosystems of North Scottsdale and to provide beautiful scenery and recreation for Scottsdale residents. Over the course of three years, The McDowell Sonoran Preserve has purchased almost 13,000 acres to add to the land already being protected. The Preserve aims to protect a total of 34,000 acres and is getting closer to its goal. So far, the Preserve stretches across 27,800 acres of pristine desert land. The recent expansion cost the city $218.3 million dollars, which a voter-approved sales tax partially covered. A land conservation program called Growing Smarter matched the funds raised by the tax.
The Brown’s Ranch Trailhead will be officially open in time for the peak hiking season, so don’t miss out. Scottsdale is a great place to hike because of its vast encompassing views of the desert.
