Cactus League Spring Training is a much loved pastime in Scottsdale. The fun begins February 23rd and runs to the end of March. For those not familiar with the Cactus League, there are 15 Major League Baseball teams playing throughout the Valley. In Scottsdale, there are two locations, Scottsdale Stadium in Old Town and Talking Stick in North Scottsdale. The Scottsdale Stadium hosts the San Francisco Giants while Talking Stick is the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies. It is perfect for die-hard baseball fans or casual participants who just want a fun day in the sun.
Seating ranges from the general admission lawn where people stretch out blankets, to single seat tickets, to the Charro Lodge inside the Scottsdale Stadium with buffet meals. Spring Training has always been an up close and personal way to interact with the players. Many fans bring a baseball or hat and ask players for autographs.
The other 12 teams play at stadiums around the Valley. There are daily games around town, all within a 45 minute drive from Scottsdale. The other locations and teams include Camelback Ranch-Glendale (Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers), Goodyear Ballpark (Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians), Hohokam Stadium (Oakland Athletics), Maryvale Baseball Park (Milwaukee Brewers), Peoria Stadium (San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners), Surprise Stadium (Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers), Tempe Diablo Stadium (Los Angeles Angels) and the newly constructed Sloan Park (Chicago Cubs). It is the perfect Arizona experience to watch a game in the warm sun.
