What Do Buyers Look For in a Luxury Home?

A recent study by Better Homes and Gardens has revealed what luxury homebuyers value most in a home. Those who are well-versed in buying or selling luxury Scottsdale homes may already know that when it comes to luxury real estate, lifestyle is key. Survey findings show that

square footage simply does not factor in as highly as it used to. Instead, affluent buyers prefer to find or create homes that suit their lifestyles. High-tech features and lifestyle amenities are of utmost importance when it comes to finding a “dream” home.

The study shows that luxury homebuyers lean toward 3 factors in particular:

1. Multiple Properties: It is quite common in today’s market for homeowners to own multiple homes. More and more buyers are becoming confident enough to purchase more than one property. In fact, approximately 53 percent of homeowners that were surveyed expressed a preference for multiple “lifestyle” homes, and 58 percent already own multiple homes to support individual activities and hobbies such as golfing or hiking.
2. Luxurious Amenities: Most homebuyers know that location is important when it comes to buying a home. Area amenities can define a luxury home as much as, if not more than, square footage can. A whopping 94 percent of surveyed homebuyers were willing to trade 1000 square feet of space in their future home for a desired amenity. Of these, 54 percent preferred living in a better neighborhood, 51 percent favored a property with more “character,” 44 percent wanted more land, 39 percent wanted convenient access to shopping, dining, and entertainment and 38 percent would prefer a shorter commute.
3. High-end Features: Of those luxury homebuyers surveyed, 60 percent favored high-end upgrades to square footage. Many luxury Scottsdale homes offer tech-friendly homes with features that the majority of surveyed homebuyers listed as must-haves. These include detached casitas, garden oases, and outdoor fireplaces.
